Tsunami drill has ECR on tenterhooks

Even as the state disaster management authority conducted a mock tsunami preparedness drill all along the East Coast, residents were worried about the presence of extra law enforcement. Rumours that a tsunami was in the making were rampant, adding to the tension in the area.

In spite of the government announcing the drill through media and loudspeakers, villagers, especially along Akkarai, Kanathur and Uthandi, were on high alert.

The drill was conducted in 13 places in Tamil Nadu, including Nainarkuppam near Chennai.
