Beach vendors opting for extra veggie fare

no meat

Keeping in mind Navratri and the month of Purattasi, when many Hindus avoid meat, many vendors along the beach are considering upping their vegetarian fare, while keeping the non-vegetarian stuff to a minimum.

Says a vendor along Akkarai Beach, “I think we have to decrease the number of chicken momos we make and change it to veg momos.”

While the fare available on the beach is usually vegetarian (think masala kadalai, sweet corn, ice cream and molaga bajjis), of late, newer items such as momos and dinner fare have been making an entry into the beaches.
