Audit reveals nature of beach trash

akkarai

Carry bags account for the maximum weight of trash on Chennai’s coastline, according to an audit by the Consumer Action Group and Chennai Trekking Club. The audit was performed after the club’s annual beach cleaning activity.

The top product types of trash were: water packets, beverage cups, bottles and bottle caps, toothbrushes and straws, spoons and forks.

According to a CAG spokesperson, the figures indicate the use of the roadside eateries whose patrons litter the coastline. High amounts of party food waste was found at Akkarai and Injambakkam beaches.
